Fair Use Policy
Guidelines for responsible use of LemonHost services
Last Updated: November 21, 2025
Overview
LemonHost provides free Discord bot hosting with generous resource allocations. This Fair Use Policy ensures that all users can enjoy reliable service by preventing abuse and ensuring resources are shared fairly across our community.
Our Philosophy: We believe in providing genuinely free hosting for legitimate Discord bots. As long as you're using our service as intended, you'll never hit artificial limitations or surprise restrictions.
What is Fair Use?
Fair use means using LemonHost resources reasonably and for their intended purpose: hosting Discord bots. The vast majority of our users naturally fall within fair use guidelines without any special effort.
Examples of Fair Use
- Running Discord bots that serve communities of any size
- Testing and developing new bot features
- Hosting multiple bots within your resource allocation
- Normal spikes in usage during events or peak times
- Bots with typical Discord API usage patterns
- Automated tasks directly related to Discord bot functionality
Prohibited Activities
The following activities violate our Fair Use Policy and may result in account suspension or termination:
Resource Abuse
- Cryptocurrency Mining: Mining Bitcoin, Ethereum, or any other cryptocurrency is strictly prohibited
- Proxy/VPN Services: Running proxy servers, VPN services, or traffic relay services
- File Sharing/Storage: Using our service as a file hosting or distribution platform
- Background Processing: Running non-Discord related computational tasks or background jobs
- Deliberate Resource Hogging: Intentionally consuming excessive CPU, RAM, or bandwidth without legitimate bot functionality
Malicious Activities
- DDoS/Attack Tools: Hosting bots designed to attack, flood, or disrupt other services
- Spam Bots: Bots that send unsolicited messages, raid servers, or engage in coordinated harassment
- Scraping/Harvesting: Bots that aggressively scrape Discord data beyond normal API usage
- Token Grabbers: Malware or tools designed to steal Discord accounts or sensitive information
- Exploit Tools: Software designed to exploit vulnerabilities in Discord or other services
Terms of Service Violations
- Discord ToS Violations: Bots that violate Discord's Terms of Service or Community Guidelines
- Illegal Content: Hosting or distributing illegal content of any kind
- Account Sharing: Selling, sharing, or transferring hosting accounts to third parties
- Circumventing Limits: Creating multiple accounts to bypass resource restrictions
Resource Guidelines
Your free tier includes 1GB RAM and 2GB storage. Here's what we monitor:
CPU Usage
While we don't impose strict CPU limits, sustained high CPU usage (consistently above 80% for extended periods) will trigger a review. Brief spikes are normal and expected.
Memory (RAM)
You're allocated 1GB of RAM. Occasional temporary spikes above this during high activity are acceptable, but consistent overuse may require optimization or upgrade.
Storage
2GB of storage should be sufficient for bot code, configurations, and reasonable log files. Regularly clean up old logs and unnecessary files.
Bandwidth
Normal Discord bot API traffic is unlimited. However, serving large files, streaming media, or non-bot related bandwidth usage is not permitted.
Process Limits
Run one primary bot process per hosting slot. Multiple lightweight helper processes are fine, but don't run unrelated applications.
Monitoring and Enforcement
How We Monitor
We use automated systems to monitor resource usage patterns and detect unusual activity. We look for:
- Sustained resource usage inconsistent with Discord bot operations
- Network patterns suggesting prohibited activities
- User reports of bot misconduct
- Violations of Discord's Terms of Service
Enforcement Process
- Automated Warnings: If unusual patterns are detected, you'll receive an automated notification
- Investigation: Our team reviews flagged accounts to determine if violations occurred
- Warning: First-time minor violations typically result in a warning and request to correct the issue
- Suspension: Repeated violations or serious abuse results in temporary account suspension
- Termination: Severe violations or failure to comply with warnings leads to permanent account termination
Important: We reserve the right to immediately terminate accounts engaged in illegal activities, malicious behavior, or severe resource abuse without prior warning.
Optimization Best Practices
To ensure you stay within fair use while maximizing performance:
Efficient Coding
- Use efficient algorithms and avoid unnecessary loops
- Implement proper error handling to prevent crash loops
- Cache data appropriately to reduce API calls
- Use Discord.js or discord.py built-in features for rate limiting
Resource Management
- Regularly rotate and clean up old log files
- Use database solutions efficiently (consider external databases for large datasets)
- Implement graceful shutdowns to prevent memory leaks
- Monitor your own resource usage through our dashboard
Bot Design
- Use Discord's slash commands and interactions for modern, efficient bots
- Implement cooldowns to prevent spam and reduce load
- Use intents appropriately - don't request unnecessary gateway intents
- Consider sharding for very large bots (100k+ servers)
When You Need More Resources
If your bot legitimately outgrows the free tier:
Contact Us: We're always happy to discuss your needs. While we currently offer only a free tier, we may be able to suggest optimization strategies or provide guidance for your specific use case.
Reporting Violations
If you encounter bots or users violating this Fair Use Policy:
- Contact our support team through Discord or email
- Provide specific details about the violation
- Include any relevant evidence (bot IDs, behavior descriptions, etc.)
- We investigate all reports promptly and confidentially
Appeals Process
If your account is suspended or terminated and you believe this was in error:
- Contact our support team within 30 days of the action
- Provide your account details and explanation
- We'll review your case and respond within 5-7 business days
- Decisions on appeals are final
Policy Updates
We may update this Fair Use Policy to address new patterns of abuse or changes in our service. Material changes will be communicated via:
- Email to all registered users
- Announcements in our Discord server
- Notifications in the hosting dashboard
Continued use of LemonHost after policy updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
Questions?
If you're unsure whether your intended use complies with this policy, please ask! We're here to help and would rather answer questions upfront than deal with violations later.
